Book I am LOVING for Teams and Leaders (and, well… everyone!)
The Six Types of Working Genius by: Pat Lencioni
Part of my motivation to engage more with social media was the idea of helping to create a larger community where people can come together and learn from one another. So, if you don’t already follow me, come and join the growing community so we can all be human together (@heyalihearn)! Every month, I’m sharing about a book I’m reading and posing questions to get you self-reflecting and thinking about application in your world.
Pat Lencioni, the author of this book and also The Advantage and The 5 Dysfunctions of a team, started working on the idea of the Working Genius model in 2020. His goal is to help people find not only what they are good at but also what is fulfilling for them at work! (By the way, “work” is defined as anything where you’re getting things done — so parenting, volunteering, etc., all fit, too!) He wants to combat burnout in the workplace (which I think those in education know a thing or two about!). My team and I have all read the book and have figured out our own Geniuses! It is so helpful to be able to take what we have learned and apply it to our meetings and the work we do! Helping ensure that we all love our work is incredibly powerful!
Even if you don’t end up getting/using the book, you can still get on the website and poke around — there are free resources, podcasts, and you can find the official assessment there too! They have just rolled out the new STUDENT assessment! How cool and perfect for the start of the year!
