Training of Trainers (TOT) Foundational Restorative Practices

Nebraska – Summer 2025

Illinois – Summer 2025

Summer Intensive

4-Day Training Event

The Why

Simply put: To change the world. We know this work changes people, it changes schools, and it has the capacity to completely transform education. People attend our trainings to grow themselves and to take the skills, strategies, and philosophies back to their settings. Now, you can become a trainer of the AHCC Foundational Restorative Practices Series within your district/school/organization! If you have already attended the AHCC Foundational Restorative Practices training and you want more, and if you want to learn how to build capacity by training others back in your district, this 4-day retreat is for you!

The What

Picture this: Four days focused on YOU, and how to effectively bring belonging, connection, and community into our schools in a sustainable way. Three evenings to unplug from life and plug into others who are just as motivated, committed, and excited to make change as you are! We believe in working hard and playing hard, and we plan to do exactly that! From large group learning sessions to small group activities and self-reflection to s’mores, we will be doing it all! Get ready to have fun, be vulnerable, learn more about RP, and yourself, at this retreat-style Training of Trainers.

The Takeaways
  • Skills to help you feel confident in delivering the AHCC Foundational Restorative Practices training back in your own setting (this includes drilling down deep into content, exploring effective presentation/engagement strategies and techniques, addressing roadblocks to training, etc.)
  • Skills that help you tell stories and use story-telling as a vehicle for training, strengthening your own practice and the practice of those around you.
  • Guiding documents to support the logistical side of setting up trainings, gathering project-wide data, providing coaching support, etc.
  • Access to online materials necessary for providing effective training and support (including trainer guides and videos, materials for activities, a virtual space for Q&A, group chats, etc.)
  • TOT Community of Practice Booster Sessions throughout the year to support your training skills
  • Opportunities to connect with other trainers who are also in training
  • Intensive support from the AHCC team on all aspects of providing a successful RP experience
  • And no AHCC experience would be complete without fun things to make you smile and bring the messages back with you like journals, t-shirts, and other exciting surprises 🙂
The Who

We want you to consider joining us for this unique opportunity if:

  1. You have participated in an AHCC Foundational Restorative Practices series, including the Community of Practice sessions.
  2. You have been identified by your organization to be a leader/trainer/coach of this work in your district/setting.
  3. You have the necessary time and space in your current systems allocated to allow you to train and coach effectively.
  4. You have a passion for this work and a deep desire to inspire others, and give them the tools to make a lasting difference in the lives of students, families, and staff.
TOT Community of Practice Booster Sessions:

The 4-day Summer Intensive includes not only the training itself but also two additional TOT Community of Practice sessions with Ali Hearn. These sessions are designed with these goals in mind:

  • To offer participants a safe/brave spaces to continue to practice their skills. A portion of each session will allow practice time for facilitation to keep your skills fresh!
  • To help you apply what you’ve learned and provide guidance on implementing the concepts, managing data, and handling system management related to the training material.
  • To allow participants the benefit of learning through the experience of others. By bringing people back together who have started to apply their skills, lessons can be learned and practices can be strengthened by all participants.
  • To learn additional content that is supplemental to the training content.

Questions?

Your Title Goes Here
How many people should we send to the ToT?

It is recommended that everyone trains with a partner for two main reasons:
1. It is a lot to train two full days back to back alone, especially when you are just starting!
2. For building capacity's sake, it is typically good to have more than one person who holds training knowledge in an organization.

What if I can't attend all 4 days?

Participation in all four days is mandatory. Please contact TheTeam@hearncc.com with any questions you may have.

Do you offer refunds if I can't attend?

This live event does not offer refunds for cancellations. However, the tickets can be transferred to another individual who qualifies for the assigned event date. A new interest form would need to be submitted and approved. If you have any further questions or need assistance with the ticket transfer process, please contact us at TheTeam@hearncc.com.

Is Parking Available

Yes.

Nebraska: Admission and parking inside the park is Free with Registration.

Illinois: Parking is Free.

I have dietary restrictions. Will the food provided include gluten and dairy-free options?

Yes!  We will be sending a dietary request form.

What if I don’t want to eat the food provided – will I be given a break to leave and get food elsewhere?

A break will be provided; however, we highly recommend enjoying the breakfast/lunch or packing food to bring.  A fridge is available onsite, and there are grocery stores nearby.

Unfortunately, I cannot partake in evening activities – is that ok?

Of course! They are optional! If you have other commitments or simply just need a break in the evening, not a problem. You will finish training approximately at 4:30 and are not expected to be back again until 8:30 the following morning.

Do I need to bring my computer?

We know it is shocking, but we recommend you bring a laptop if possible. Our time on the computers will be limited and purposeful.

What should I wear?

Whatever makes you feel the most like you!  We will be wearing jeans and T-shirts all week for all the activities. Bring layers in case you get too cool indoors or too warm outdoors and tennis shoes if we are outside.

What are my options for dinner on the nights that it’s not provided?

Depending on which training location you choose, there are different options.

Nebraska: There is a restaurant at the park (Carl’s at Mahoney). Here are some additional local options provided by the park.

Illinois: Grayslake is a suburb of Chicago, so there are many restaurants and fast food options in the area. There is also easy access to grocery stores.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions at TheTeam@hearncc.com.
