Description
Implementing Restorative Practices goes far beyond any single strategy or structure.
At its core, this work is about how people relate to one another and how leaders shape the environments around them. It begins with a deep understanding of the principles behind Restorative Practices. Not just as ideas, but as shifts in how we think, communicate, respond, and lead.
When those principles are lived, they show up in how district leaders support building leaders, how building leaders support staff, and how everyone works together to support students, families, and the broader school community.
From there, we focus on bringing those principles to life through practices. Tools like affective language and Circle give structure to how we communicate, build connection, and respond to challenges in ways that align with our values. What happens outside of Circle matters just as much as what happens inside it.
Finally, we focus on sustainability. This means building the systems, supports, and structures that ensure the work is not dependent on individual effort, but is embedded across classrooms, teams, and leadership practices over time.
This training supports all three: mindset, skillset, and systems.
Who Should Attend
The greatest impact comes when districts send a leadership and influence team, not just individuals.
This team often includes:
- Systems Leaders: Those in positions to shape structures, priorities, and long-term direction
- Implementer Leaders (Trailblazers): Educators who are ready to begin practicing immediately and help build momentum within their setting
Bringing a team allows participants to learn alongside one another, reflect on shared experiences, and begin building the alignment necessary for successful implementation.
While individuals are welcome to attend, this experience is most powerful when participants are able to engage in the experience and then apply the learning alongside others from their system.
Goals and Objectives
By the end of the series, participants will:
- Develop a deep understanding of the principles that drive Restorative Practices and how those principles shape daily interactions and decision-making
- Identify the critical features, or “look-fors,” of effective Restorative Practices implementation, including alignment with the MTSS framework
- Begin applying foundational practices in their own settings with greater clarity and confidence
- Explore the role of systems and infrastructure in sustaining this work over time
All while experiencing meaningful personal growth through authentic connection, experiential learning, and engagement with others doing this work.
Community of Practice Booster Sessions
Participation in the 3-day Foundational Training Series includes two additional Community of Practice sessions with Ali Hearn.
These sessions are designed to support continued growth and implementation by:
- Providing a continued space to practice and strengthen facilitation skills
- Supporting participants in applying what they have learned within their own settings
- Creating opportunities to learn from the experiences, challenges, and successes of others
- Extending learning through additional content, reflection, and guided support
Structure of the Days
Day 1: Theories
Day one includes the roots and theories behind Restorative Practices, as well as a brief overview of the entire continuum of practices (from proactive to responsive). While this training focuses primarily on proactive strategies and practices, exposure to the entire continuum of practices is critical for the development of a strong foundation of support.
Day 2: Practices
Day two takes a deeper dive into the proactive/preventative practices on the Restorative Practices continuum including changing our language (affective language) & changing the way we gather (continuum of Circles). Day two builds on the connections and relationships from day one to strengthen and deepen overall learning.
Day 3: Installation
Review of Days 1 & 2 and intentional team time allocated for leadership teams to work together on a comprehensive plan for building/district-wide implantation. This includes how to use data for decision-making, professional development considerations, successful alignment to current policies and practices, and other critical features of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework.
While Restorative Practices are essential for building relationships, community, and connection, they are not designed to address all behavior needs on their own. Students who require additional support benefit from a clear, function-based approach that helps adults understand what is driving behavior and respond effectively. For teams looking to strengthen this part of their system, our Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning Training provides the structure and tools to do so.
Additional AHCC Trainings
“The best way I can describe this training was to compare it to a retreat. I walked away feeling refreshed and energized (which does not typically happen after professional development). I felt a bond with my little circle which is highly uncommon with PD. We all exchanged numbers and I am certain we will stay in touch. YOU are changing lives.”

Do you offer refunds if I can't attend?
This live event does not offer refunds for cancellations. However, the tickets can be transferred to another individual for the assigned event date. If you have any further questions or need assistance with the ticket transfer process, please contact us at support@hearncc.com.
What if I can't attend all 3 days?
Participation in all three days is a requirement, especially for your first cohort / Leadership team being trained. Please contact support@hearncc.com with any questions you may have.
What if I love the training so much, I want more?
Great news! There is an Advanced Restorative Practices Training series (Days 4, 5, and 6!) that focuses on sustaining community over time and repairing harm when necessary. Participation in the Foundational Restorative Practices Training series is the first step to learn the building blocks necessary for long-term sustainable implementation before being trained in the Advanced series.
Am I able to get CPDUs or CEUs for attending this event?
At this time, credits for each training are event specific. If credits are being offered, it will be listed under the training’s specific details on the registration page.

Can I train the rest of my staff when I return from this training?
This is not a turnkey training model. Please attend this training with your own personal growth in mind. You will be learning how to apply your new skills to the environments you work in the most. Day 3 of the Foundational Restorative Practices Training focuses specifically on the systems and data necessary to effectively support this work and includes time for developing a comprehensive implementation plan to achieve intended outcomes.
If you are interested in a Training of Trainers process to develop internal capacity, please contact support@hearncc.com for more details.
